Heaven Within Reach: A Cozy Residence in Taiwan

The inspiration behind Heaven Within Reach came from the breathtaking natural surroundings. Situated amidst mountains and by the river, the original house posed several challenges. With its roughcast exterior and low ceiling height, it required a creative approach to transform it into a modern and inviting space.

One of the standout features of this design is the clever use of cross beams to divide the space into public and private domains. The bedroom, storage, hallway, and kitchen & dining area are strategically arranged around the center, allowing for a spacious and functional public domain.

To enhance the visual lightness and spaciousness of the interior, the design team employed various techniques. Paper-like layers and shadows create a cloud-like atmosphere, while the irregular arch ceiling adds depth and dimension. Circular edges add a sense of flowing rhythm, and a color palette of white, dusty gray, deep walnut, and hints of black create a balance between lightness and coziness.

With a total area of 1423.4 sq ft, Heaven Within Reach offers a serene and inviting living environment. The design seamlessly integrates the beauty of nature with modern comforts, allowing residents to appreciate the surrounding views from every corner of the house. Whether it's working by the window or practicing aerial yoga, this residence provides a heavenly retreat for everyday life.

One of the remarkable aspects of this design is the incorporation of hidden crosses throughout the space. Inspired by the owner's devout Christian faith, these crosses serve as reminders of love, blessings, and the presence of God. From the hallway to the TV wall and even the kitchen cabinet handle, these ingeniously placed crosses add a touch of spirituality to the home.

The Heaven Within Reach project commenced in November 2020 and was completed in September 2021. The design team, led by Kenneth Lee, meticulously researched and overcame various challenges to bring this vision to life. The result is a residence that not only showcases exceptional design but also provides a sanctuary for its occupants.

Heaven Within Reach has been recognized for its outstanding design and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022. This accolade highlights the meticulous attention to detail, technical expertise, and contribution to enhancing quality of life that this design embodies.
